Last week the government of Zimbabwe closed that country's only independent newspaper. The Daily News had been highly critical of Zimbabwe's president, Robert Mugabe. Authorities say the paper's publishers had failed to meet the requirements of the law. In other words, the paper did not register under the government's strict new media laws.
