Lion dance with a twist

IT was a lion dance but with a twist. Instead of humans, it was performed by two industrial robotic arms during Monash University's Open Day last Saturday.
The idea came about when a staff member of Monash University Malaysia watched the movements of the robotic arms and put together a creative combination of robotics and traditional Chinese lionhead gears.
The result was a robotic lion dance team powered by electronics and computer systems.
"It's like Lion King and Simba," said four-year-old Sophia Soh, who visited the engineering laboratory with her parents.
