SARAWAK Cultural Village at Damai is a place of music and dance. The big brass gongs ring out "dee-DONG, dee-DONG" any day of the week. But not too long ago, they sang a different tune - "wee-WON! wee-WON!"
The village won the nation's most coveted tourism award for the year 2000 for Best Incentive Theme Venue. Village head Jane Lian Labang attended a glittering function in Kuala Lumpur to receive the prized trophy from Deputy Culture, Arts and Tourism Minister Datuk Dr Ng Yen Yen.
