Euro to debut on New Year's Day

BY Jan 1 2002, the introduction of the single European currency - the euro - will be completed with the launch of euro bank notes and coins as the only legal currency within the euro zone.
Consequently, all legacy currency accounts must be converted prior to this date.
That goes for those held in the national currencies of the 12 countries who will adopt the euro on Jan 1: Belgium, Germany, Spain, France, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Austria, Portugal, Finland and Greece.
