Officials from the United States, Japan and South Korea prepared Monday for informal discussions on how to resolve growing tensions over North Korea's suspected development of nuclear weapons, a Japanese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman said.
The two-day talks beginning Monday night were being held at a hotel in downtown Tokyo, she said on condition of anonymity.
She refused to give further details.
Officials will discuss forming an international inspection team to oversee the dismantling of Pyongyang's alleged program, as well as the possibility of energy aid for the impoverished country if it agrees to abandon its nuclear ambitions, Kyodo news reported, ...
