Cycle: Ullrich returns to Telekom
By Patrick Vignal
BERLIN, Oct 4 Reuters - Former Tour de France winner Jan Ullrich is returning to Team
Telekom in a bid to challenge Lance Armstrong's supremacy in the world's greatest cycle
race.
Ullrich competed for the German stable from 1995 to 2002, becoming the first German
to win the Tour with them in 1997.
Team Telekom - to be re-named T-Mobile - said the 29-year-old German, regarded as the
rider most capable of beating five-times winner Armstrong on the Tour, had agreed to a
long-term contract starting from the 2004 season.
"The sporting aspect was decisive in my decision," Ullrich said in a statement.
