Ethiopia handed over to Kenya on Tuesday more than three dozen elephant tusks seized 18 months ago from smugglers in a border town _ one of the largest hauls of illegal ivory in recent years, Kenyan wildlife officials said.

Kenyan authorities suspect the 37 tusks _ a total of 145 kilograms (320 pounds) of ivory _ handed over at a ceremony in the border town of Moyale were cut from 50 elephants killed in northern Kenya in the first four months of 2002, said Ngugi Gecaga, a spokesman for Kenya Wildlife Services.
