Article: Voiceless Black Firefighters Commemorated

In the face of the mainstream media's concealing of the heroic rescue
efforts of African American firefighters on September 11, 2001, a Black
photographer has set out to capture and record the continuing history of a
people.

Some 100 residents gathered at the Brooklyn-based Vulcan Hall, home of the
society of the city's Black firefighters, to watch photographer Edmund A.
Herman unveil artwork that commemorates the 12 African American
firefighters who died at the World Trade Center disaster.

"This project is based on the principle of Kujichagulia - it's about us
speaking for ourselves," said Herman.
