With the unemployment rate recently peaking at 6.4 percent, about nine
million Americans are now jobless and struggling to find work. African
Americans are especially hard hit by the depressed job market, according to
a national survey of unemployed workers commissioned by the National
Employment Law Project (NELP).

"In the midst of all the economic hardship today, this survey proves that
unemployment has taken a severe toll on the African American community,"
said Maurice Emsellem, NELP's Director of Public Policy. "Compared with
