NT: Suspected illegal fishing boat caught after two-hour chase

DARWIN, Oct 23 AAP - A suspected illegal fishing boat has been captured after a two-hour
air and sea pursuit off northern Australia, the federal government said today.

Fisheries Minister Ian Macdonald said the Indonesian vessel and its crew of six were
being escorted to Thursday Island, where they would be interviewed by authorities.

The drama yesterday started when a Coastwatch helicopter spotted the vessel near Carpentaria
Shoal, west of Thursday Island - an area inside Australia's Fishing Zone often targeted
by Indonesian fishermen.
