NEW YORK, Oct 30, 2003 (United Press International via COMTEX) -- Latin American stock markets were mixed this week, though the region's equities remain near high points for the year.

It has been an incredible year to date for stocks in the region, with the main index in Argentina up 81 percent, Brazil and Chile having both gained about 55 percent, while Mexico has seen a more modest improvement of 27 percent.

While some of those gains have come about for artificial reasons -- such as Venezuela's rise on the back of capital controls -- most analysts say that solid moves on the political and economic fronts are the biggest ...
