The Anglican Church of Uganda will cut all ties with the New Hampshire Diocese of the Episcopal Church following the American church's consecration of a gay man as a bishop, the Ugandan church said Monday.

In neighboring Kenya, the bishop of the town of Eldoret, Thomas Kogo, said his diocese will not recognize V. Gene Robinson as a bishop but will maintain its ties to the New Hampshire Diocese. Other Kenyan Anglican leaders refused to comment on Robinson's elevation.

Robinson's consecration as a bishop has provoked widespread condemnation throughout Africa, a continent where homosexuals are often shunned.
