An Indonesian fishing boat that last week attempted to land 14 asylum seekers in Australia had been towed back to Indonesia with its passengers, the immigration minister said Sunday.

Amanda Vanstone said the wooden fishing boat, the Minasa Bone, had been escorted back into Indonesian waters by the Australian navy, made its way to an Indonesian island and was now in the care of police and officials from the International Organization for Migration (IOM).

"They are safe, they are in Indonesia, the IOM are there," Vanstone told the Seven Network television on Sunday.
