Chicago White Sox manager Ozzie Guillen, who last week became the first Venezuelan native to lead a Major League Baseball club, said Monday he will "always try to be the best."

"The task I have ahead is to win and always try to be the best, I can't conform with anything less," Guillen said.

Guillen was named White Sox manager on Nov. 3. The 39-year-old retired three years ago and spent the last two years as third base coach for the Florida Marlins.

Guillen, who had no previous managerial experience, replaced Jerry Manuel, who was fired on Sept. 29 after the White Sox missed the playoffs for the second straight year.
