Bill Ritchie has fond memories of visiting Alderbrook more than a quarter century ago.
Nestled in the Cascade foothills northeast of Hockinson, the restaurant offered a peaceful place to visit with friends and family back in the mid- to late 1970s.
"You could sit around fire pits and you could eat your dessert and have a cup of coffee," Ritchie said.
Alderbrook left a lasting memory of the serenity of an open fire, a memory that Ritchie wants to recapture in at his home west of Meadow Glade.
Fire pits allow homeowners to bring a touch of the woods to their back yards, without ever having to get into the car.
