Article: Turkish prime minister says there is no proof yet of al-Qaida involvement in bombings

Turkey's prime minister said Sunday there is evidence the terrorist bombings that killed 57 people in Istanbul in less than a week were motivated by religion, but it is not certain that al-Qaida was involved.

In an interview with British Broadcasting Corp. television, Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan also declared that the attacks would not divert Turkey from seeking to become the only Muslim member of the European Union "because Turkey is a model country which has merged the culture of Islam and democracy together."
