A top-ranking North Korean defector with insights into the communist country's military said Thursday that any U.S. invasion of the country would fare much worse than that of Iraq because of North Korea's much stronger defenses and foreign backing.
Hwang Jang Yop, 81, a former chief of North Korea's parliament who once mentored leader Kim Jong Il, said North Korea would be able to fight more than one year against a U.S. invasion, as opposed to the several-week defense mounted by the Iraqi army earlier this year.
