So you thought you could get away from the never-ending pre-election billboards,
posters and elocution on the streets.
Think again. United Russia is now following you right into the
supermarket.
Hundreds of cashiers and sales assistants at supermarket giants Sedmoi
Kontinent and Pyatyorochka are wearing United Russia badges, shirts and
caps in a deal that the pro-Kremlin party hopes will win over middle-class
voters. The badge says, "I'm for United Russia." The yellow shirts and
caps bear the party's bear logo.
"This is their own position as citizens," Vladimir Medinsky, head of
United Russia's Moscow office, said of the supermarkets' owners.
