Britain's Plain English Campaign _ scourge of jargon, cliches and legalese _ has chosen U.S. Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld for its annual "Foot in Mouth" award for the most baffling statement by a public figure.

The campaign, which handed out awards on Tuesday, cited Rumsfeld's comment at a press briefing on Iraq: "Reports that say that something hasn't happened are always interesting to me, because as we know, there are known knowns, there are things we know we know.
