A few weeks ago at a Blaine House conference, the idea of a saltwater fishing license was proposed by the Department of Marine Resources commissioner, George Lapointe.
It's an idea that has come up before in the Maine Legislature, just like allowing hunting on Sundays or allowing nonresidents to open the deer season with Maine residents.
These are hunting traditions in Maine that have existed for decades, and have been contentious for just as long.
