In the early 1970s, William Potter Gale founded the Posse Comitatus, a
gun-loving, antisemitic, white supremacist citizens' militia based on the
power of the people to run their own government. And hang from the nearest
tree the officials - or anyone else - who got in their way.
"If a Jew comes near you, run a sword through him," urged the self-styled
Christian Identity minister in a radio sermon broadcast throughout rural
Kansas in 1982.
Central to Gale's preaching was the notion that a Jewish conspiracy cloaked
as communism was plotting to take over the courts, overturn the
