Dr. John (Ohannes) Ounjian of Forest Hills, Queens, NY was awarded a gold
medal by Armenia's Ministry of Education for his relentless efforts to
improve children's education in Gyumri and his dedication to promote
educational reform in Armenia. The October 10, 2003 ceremony, which took
place in the Armenag and Yeghisapet Ounjian School, coincided with the
second trip of the Friends of Ounjian School, a group comprised of Dr.
Ounjian's friends devoted to the perpetuation of the school.
After a series of performances by the school's students, Simon Y. Balian,
the Executive Director of the Fund for Armenian Relief (FAR), presented the
gold medal honoring Dr. Ounjian ...
