Fed: Child's upbringing may affect adulthood chronic pain

BRISBANE, Jan 5 AAP - A child's upbringing may affect the way he or she tolerates chronic
pain as an adult, research suggests.
Psychologist Sue Scott has spent the past five years at the Royal Brisbane Hospital's
multidisciplinary pain centre completing research for her PhD on cognitive, social and
developmental influences on the experience of chronic pain.
She's found that emotionally secure adults with chronic pain, or those who have a positive
outlook about themselves and others, are less likely to be depressed and anxious and reported
