JAPANESE electronics giant Matsushita Electric Industrial Co (MEI) is
considering shifting its 14-year-old Kedah-based permanent magnetic motor
plant to Thailand.
The move follows the establishment of a new joint venture between
Minebea Co Ltd and MEI.
Minebea is a leading manufacturer of minitiatures and ball bearings,
while MEI is best known for its Panasonic brand of consumer electronics
and digital communication products.
"They are considering it but nothing is confirmed yet," MEI
(Singapore) Ltd spokesman Junji Kanegawa told Business Times. Kanegawa
handles the company's public relations activities for the South-East Asian
