Tokyo stocks opened mixed Friday following Wall Street's weakness overnight. The U.S. dollar was down against the Japanese yen.

The Nikkei Stock Average of 225 issues was up 1.17 points, or 0.01 percent, at 11,001.87 points shortly after the open. On Thursday, the index slipped 1.69 points, or 0.02 percent.

But the broader index of all issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange's First Section was down 0.15 points, or 0.01 percent, at 1,074.30. The TOPIX gained 4.10 points, or 0.38 percent, the day before.

The dollar was trading at 106.18 yen at 9 a.m. (0000 GMT) Friday, down 0.60 yen from late Thursday in Tokyo but above the 106.00 yen it bought in New York ...
