KUALA LUMPUR, Sat. - The rise in crime has prompted residents in many neighbourhoods to hire private security guards.
A New Sunday Times check showed many housing areas in the Klang Valley relied on the services of security guards through the initiative of their residents' associations.
Medan Damansara resident A. Visvanathan, 75, said: "The presence of security guards makes criminals think twice about coming to our area."
He said police were unable to offer help all the time and residents organised themselves to protect their life and property.
