THE SETTLEMENT of the lawsuit against DYFS brought by Children's Rights, Inc., provides an opportunity to try to improve DYFS or to explore a different approach. From the public's perspective, DYFS workers lose track of cases, as in the Faheem Williams case in Newark, and miss abuse that would have been obvious to a layperson, as in the Jackson case in Collingswood.
