NSW: Sentences for manslaughter getting longer, study shows

SYDNEY, Jan 27 AAP - There may be a public perception the justice system is soft on
killers, but a new study shows NSW judges are handing down harsher sentences for manslaughter.

The NSW Judicial Commission examined the sentences given to 216 convicted murderers
and 261 offenders convicted of manslaughter in the Supreme and District courts between
1994 and 2001.

Since the last study covering 1990-1993, the median head sentence for manslaughter
