SHARE prices of companies in the poultry business took a beating
yesterday from the market's knee-jerk reaction to the growing bird flu
scare, but demand for Malaysian chickens is actually expected to grow in
the short term.
Share prices of poultry products companies fell by between 2 per cent
and 13.5 per cent as Indonesia and Thailand reported cases of bird flu.
While local investors voted with their feet, poultry traders are
reporting more orders for chickens from Singapore after the republic stopped
importing them from Thailand.
