The Sikh Community Center was launched at Newark, California to provide a
facility for children, parents and senior citizens of the Sikh community in
the Bay Area 'to socialize, help each other, create bonds, friendships and
forge a better tomorrow.'
Over 580 people attended the launch, which raised more than $10,000 for the
Center. The guest of honor was Ujjal Dosanjh, former premier of British
Columbia, Canada.
Dosanjh spoke about the importance of such centers for the community.
The plan is to establish a $200,000 facility within two years, according to
Rennu Dhillon, founder of the Center.
