Thursday, February 5, 2004 -- NEW YORK - Poverty among Jewish New Yorkers is at a historic high, with 20 percent of the city's 1 million Jews classified as poor, according to a survey released Tuesday by the Metropolitan Council on Jewish Poverty and the UJA- Federation of New York.

The survey, which is based on the UJA-Federation's 2002 Jewish Community Study of New York, also found that Jews living under the Federal Poverty Guideline nearly doubled over the past decade, even as poverty among African-Americans and Hispanics decreased and ...
