Wolfe to retire as Public Theater head
NEW YORK, Feb 13, 2004 (United Press International via COMTEX) -- George C. Wolfe, the most prominent black theatrical producer in the United States, will step down as producer of Manhattan's Public Theater next season.
Wolfe, 49, has been in the job created by the late Joseph Papp, founder of the influential Public Theater, since 1993. He said he plans to spend more time writing plays, screenplays, and novels but will remain a trustee of the Public Theater and direct there occasionally.
