THE General Insurance Association of Malaysia (PIAM) says 4,629
private cars were reported stolen to insurance companies during the first
eight months of 2003, representing an increase of 1210014ver last year's
corresponding period.
PIAM Executive Director Lim Chia Fook says the total claims incurred
for private cars up to August 2003 amounted to RM310 million, an increase
of 1810014ver the same period in 2002.
Toyota had the highest theft rate among all makes in the private car
category. Statistics reveal that the theft rate for insured Toyota vehicles
was 5.39 per 1,000 - more than five times the rate for Protons.
