Brazil samba parade to honor Hans Christian Andersen

One of this city's top tier samba groups will honor Danish fairy tale writer Hans Christian Andersen in next year's carnival parade, organizers announced Wednesday.

The parade by the Imperatriz Leopoldinense samba group will be sponsored by the Hans Christian Andersen 2005 project as part of the worldwide celebrations for the author's bicentennial.

"It has always been my dream to honor Hans Christian Andersen in Rio's carnival parade," said Jens Olesen, the president of the Danish-Brazilian Chamber of Commerce. "I think it would make him very happy."
