Blackmun papers show abortion coalition

WASHINGTON, Mar 04, 2004 (United Press International via COMTEX) -- Republican-appointed justices banded together to save Roe vs. Wade at the U.S. Supreme Court in 1992, court documents released Thursday in Washington show.

The documents are part of half a million letters, notes, memos and journals left to the Library of Congress by the late Justice Harry Blackmun, the author of Roe vs. Wade in 1973. The library released the crates of papers for public inspection Thursday according to Blackmun's wishes, five years after his death.
