NSW: Study links cigarette smoke in household dust, SIDS

SYDNEY, March 8 AAP - Cigarette smoke particles even in household dust can increase
the risk of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS), a new study has found.

The US research revealed contamination from cigarette smoke in households where parents
smoked inside was three to eight times higher than in homes where they tried to reduce
the infant's exposure by smoking outside.

But the study, published in the Tobacco Control journal, showed that in households
with parents smoking outdoors, contamination by tobacco smoke was five to seven times
higher than in homes where parents did not smoke at all.
