Statement of Dr. Elias Zerhouni Director, Institutes of Health Committee
on House Energy and Commerce Subcommittee on Health March 25, 2004 Mr.
Chairman, Members of the Subcommittee, I am Dr. Elias Zerhouni, the Director
of the National Institutes of Health (NIH). I am delighted to appear before
you today to testify about NIH's role in clinical research. With the support
of Congress and the White House, NIH has been the driving force behind
perhaps the greatest era of discovery in the history of biomedical research.
We are gaining unprecedented knowledge about human biology and medical
