Alleged leaders of the Southeast Asian terrorist group Jemaah Islamiyah distributed a religious edict, or fatwa, from Osama bin Laden urging its members to kill Americans before it carried out deadly bombings, members of the group said in televised confessions.

The claims by Malaysian militant suspects detained in Indonesia would corroborate suspected links between bin Laden's al-Qaida network and Jemaah Islamiyah, and could provide damning evidence against Abu Bakar Bashir, the group's alleged spiritual leader, as authorities struggle to tie him to terrorist plots.
