Senator Prateep Ungsongtham Hata has been lobbying for votes in her bid
to win the 2004 World's Children's Prize for the Rights of the Child.
She has been nominated for the $65,000 (Bt2.5-million) prize along
with Emani Davis and her mother Elizabeth Gaynes from the United States,
and Paul and Mercy Baskar from India.
Prateep said yesterday that she had sent letters to nearly 1,000 local
schools asking for support and that so far she had obtained more than 600,000
votes.
She said that many Thai students, upon learning about the project, had
also voted for the other nominees.
