Students celebrate Pi Day with fun math projects

Students at Bonny Eagle Middle School participated in their 11th annual Pi Day Math Celebration recently. This year Pi Day was held on March 15 because the actual pi day fell on Sunday, March 14.

The date 3/14 was chosen for Pi Day because it is easily identifiable with pi, the number 3.14 (or to 11 places, 3.14159265359), which is an infinite variable resulting from the division of 22 by 7. Pi was named by the Greeks, and is widely used in geometry to find the areas and volumes of circular and spherical objects.
