Fed: Howard denies leaning on intelligence agencies

Prime Minister JOHN HOWARD has denied leaning on the country's spies amid fresh calls
for a royal commission into intelligence agencies.

Mr HOWARD says he'll respond privately to intelligence whistleblower LANCE COLLINS
-- who wrote to the PM appealing for a royal commission in the wake of a series of intelligence
failings.

The PM says Colonel COLLINS' claims simply highlight strongly-held, differing points
of view within the intelligence community.
