After Estonia regained independence from the Soviet Union in 1991, a party run by jokesters suggested reviving a much older foreign occupation: the 17th century rule by Sweden.

The Royalist Party, which won a few seats in Parliament on its tongue-in-cheek platform, said the best way to ensure the country prospered and remained secure from its former rulers in Moscow would be declaring war on Stockholm, then quickly surrendering _ opening the way for one of the Swedish royals to be named Estonia's king.
