When it comes to educational achievement, Indian Americans in New York City
are ahead of the general population.

A 'Census Profile' of the city's Indian-American population, prepared by
the nonprofit Asian American Federation on the basis of the 2000 Census
data, indicates education levels for Indian Americans, particularly at the
upper end of the academic ladder, were higher than those for the general
New York City population, as was their median and family incomes.

Out of the city's Indian population of 128,995, it said, 27 percent
(35,343) had not graduated from high school, compared to 28 percent of
