In the tumultuous 70s, Erick A. San Juan was a young and idealistic radical
and iconoclast, one of the original leaders of the First Quarter Storm
during the heyday of the late President Ferdinand E. Marcos.

Like a modern-day Don Quixote, he flailed away at the Establishment and
joined the parliament of the streets. He got his baptism of fire in the
infamous Battle of Mendiola.

Paradoxically, he initially admired the guts and the leadership of
Strongman Marcos - but railed against the excesses of the cronies and the
unprincipled bureaucrats who surrounded him during his 20-year rule.
