Voters believe misleading campaign ads

PHILADELPHIA, May 12, 2004 (United Press International via COMTEX) -- American voters are skeptical of campaign ads, yet many still believe the often dubious claims presented in them, according to a national survey.

Poll results from 18 states show more than half of the respondents believed inaccurate claims shown in campaign ads for George W. Bush and John Kerry.

The claims were analyzed by the Annenberg Public Policy Center of the University of Pennsylvania, which conducted the survey.
