The Indian Olympic Association on Saturday announced its bid to bring the Asian Games back to New Delhi in 2014.

"We are eager to bring the Asia Games back to its birth place," Suresh Kalmadi, the IOA president, told reporters.

New Delhi hosted the inaugural multiple-sport Asian Games in 1952 and again in 1982, but lost in the race for the 2006 games, which were allocated to Qatar's capital, Doha.

Kalmadi said a decision to put up New Delhi as a candidate for the 2014 Asian Games was made at a meeting of the national Olympic committee's top officials.
