A top official in the outgoing government has threatened to quit Parliament if Italian-born Sonia Gandhi is made India's next prime minister, saying it would be a "national shame," news reports said Sunday.
"In Parliament, I would have to address her as 'honorable prime minister.' That would hurt my national pride," health and parliamentary affairs minister Sushma Swaraj said in an interview with Star News television.
"I don't want to be a party to this national shame," she said.
