Sao Caetano of Brazil held defending Copa Libertadores champion Boca Juniors of Argentina to a lackluster scoreless draw Thursday in a first-leg quarterfinals match in the South American competition.

Boca Juniors, winner of three of the past four Copa Libertadores tournaments, needs to win the second leg match in Argentina to advance to the semifinals. Another draw will result in a penalty-kick shootout to determine which team moves on.

Sao Caetano, runner-up in the 2002 tournament, has not lost in six straight matches. The team's last loss in the South American competition came against America of Mexico in the group stage.
