Tim Lamb, criticized for his handling of the Zimbabwe issue, announced Thursday that he was resigning as chief executive of the England and Wales Cricket Board.

Lamb, in charge for nearly eight years, will officially leave the post at the end of September.

Lamb has been under fire over England's scheduled autumn tour to Zimbabwe. He has also faced opposition from county chairmen to proposed reforms of the domestic game.

Lamb and ECB chairman David Morgan have been heavily criticized for failing to cancel October's tour to Zimbabwe on moral grounds.
