Fed: Memorial to stolen generation to be decidated today

CANBERRA, May 28 AAP - A memorial will be dedicated to Australia's stolen generation
today as the government works towards the abolition of ATSIC.

The memorial, at Reconciliation Place in Canberra, recognises the thousands of indigenous
children taken from their parents between the mid-1800s and the 1970s.

Another memorial, to land rights pioneer Vincent Lingiari and the first Aboriginal
member of federal parliament Neville Bonner, will also be unveiled.

But the symbolic importance of the memorials is being overshadowed by the abolition
of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander ...
